Summer of Service
Catholic Charities

Is your family looking for something to do together?
Is your parish group, friend group or work team looking for a way to build community?
How about doing a one-time project for a few hours that makes a big difference to the people in our care: clean up a shelter, pack breakfast bags (Cup of Joe) for people who stay in our shelters, help load up food packages, and more.  Choose from 24 projects a month: to one or do many!  Most are appropriate for families and high school students - https://www.catholiccharitiesdc.org/volunteercalendar/

Here are a couple of examples of other opportunities: Help 'em Smile! Southern Maryland Mission of Mercy helps 2000 uninsured people experiencing dental issues obtain $2M work of emergency treatments.
Event dates and place: July 26,27, & 28 @ North Point High School Waldorf: http://southernmdmom.org/volunteers

Catholic Charities, the social service arm of the Church has many opportunities to make a difference in someone's life: mentor someone returning from incarceration, financial literacy instructor or coach, lead other volunteers, welcome people to emergency shelters, or take on a behind the scene project: https://www.catholiccharitiesdc.org/volunteer/

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be. What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race; the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (St. John the Evangelist, Apostle; John 1:1-5).
